The Electron Microscopy Center is now offering sample preparation for biological specimen. The EMC houses and provides access to multiple instruments and chemicals, to prepare a variety of specimens:

  • high-pressure freezing and freeze substitution
  • plunge freezing
  • critical point drying
  • sputter coating and carbon deposition
  • ultra-microtomy with cryo capability
  • specimen trimming
  • embedding and staining

The center recently welcomed a new staff member, Dr. Jian Pu, to supervise biological sample preparation. Dr. Pu graduated from Nanchang University Medical School, China and completed his Graduate School in Okayama University, Japan. He worked eight years as a post-doctoral fellow in the Electron Microscopy Facility, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology Department of the Mount Sinai Medical Center of New York. He worked as a scientist in the Life Science College of Changzhou University, China until 2019. Besides his activities at the EMC, Dr. Pu is a Research Associate in the Surgery Department at the University of Kentucky while under the technical guidance from the Electron Microscopy facility of the Harvard Medical School.
